About Northern California Bodhi Dharma Society

Northern California Bodhi Dharma Society is a US 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our organization has been serving the community as Bodhi Meditation since inception. Our aim is to bring health and happiness to our community through teaching simple and easy-to-learn meditation methods.

Since Bodhi Meditation Northern California’s inception 10 years ago, we have organized nearly 1,000 free or low-cost meditation courses and nearly 100 large-scale public wellness events. In 2018 alone, Bodhi Meditation Bailian (Milpitas) and San Francisco centers welcomed nearly 200 new students and served over 5,000 people in our various program offerings. Monthly, we serve nearly 3,000 people with our meditation classes, in-center and community-based group meditation sessions, ongoing facility access, education, and year-round activities. Over the past decade, we have served tens of thousands of people in our community.

Bodhi Meditation offers a unique meditation methodology that stimulates physical renewal and promotes general health. Acclaimed as a natural stress relief system, it further revitalizes the mind and frees the spirit, facilitating improvements in both mental clarity and physical well-being. Bodhi Meditation applies traditional practices to the challenges of modern living. The result is a uniquely effective meditation system that holistically enhances immunity, stamina and state of mind. The techniques are accessible and practical, yielding results quickly. As such, they are particularly well-suited to the pressures of urban life—and the health issues that result from them.

Bodhi Meditation in Northern California

Bodhi Meditation San Francisco Center was established in 2008, followed by Bodhi Meditation Bailian (Milpitas) Center the following year. Both centers are located in the Silicon Valley area and have benefited tens of thousands of locals over the years.

A host of courses and activities are routinely organized throughout the year: Free Meditation Introduction classes, 8.5-Day Health & Happiness Meditation Retreats, Bodhi Meditation Chanting Retreats, Energy Bagua walking meditation classes, cultural festivals, and daily group meditation sessions. Additionally, daily Energy Bagua walking meditation group practice sessions are held in community parks to afford locals a way to connect with nature, embrace the sunlight, and replenish their energy through meditation. Scheduling varies to accommodate as many people as possible.

Bodhi Meditation practices include The Meditation of Greater Illumination (standing meditation), which complements the practice of The Meditation of Purity (sitting meditation), chanting (sound meditation), prostration (movement meditation), Energy Bagua (walking meditation) and The Meditation of Awakening Wisdom (standing meditation). Many busy practitioners have seen their state of wellbeing improved through better sleep quality. Chronic sufferers of high blood pressure, blood sugar, and/or lipid levels have also seen progress in their health. Family, work-place, and community harmony have also been enhanced through the cultivation of broadmindedness, compassion, and gratitude.

City of Milpitas

In recognition of Bodhi Meditation’s dedication to the community and to encourage more people to learn meditation, the municipal government of Milpitas designated August 3rd “Bodhi Meditation Day.” This date commemorates the founding of Bodhi Meditation by Meditation Grandmaster JinBodhi.

In 2016, the city mayor, Jose Esteves, personally graced the annual occasion, which attracted thousands of people. In his speech, he praised meditation for its great positive effects. Practitioners shared their testimonials of physical and mental health turnarounds. The occasion celebrated Bodhi Meditation’s impact on the lives of many people. Because of their practice of Bodhi Meditation methods, they have become physically and mentally healthier and have attained greater happiness in their lives and communities.

The 2017 Bodhi Meditation Day event was attended by US Congressman, Ro Khanna. Recognizing the significant contributions that Bodhi Meditation has made to the community, he expressed hope that its mission of bringing health and happiness to more people can continue to expand.

Silicon Valley

Bodhi Meditation Bailian (Milpitas) Center was the first among the Bodhi Meditation network of centers to be formally recognized by a government. This is indicative of the local center’s dramatic impact on the lives of members of the local community.

Silicon Valley is a leading hub of technological innovations and marvels, with many residents working in high-stress jobs. The annual Bodhi Meditation Day is an important event in terms of educating the public about the health-promoting and stress-reducing powers of meditation.
